    AKA Archery is a featured program in the AKASPORT Outdoors Division. We want kids to understand that there is more to active life and sport than traditional sports, and through Archery, we have witnessed the passion and excitement for sport by way of bow and arrow. Each day kids will learn the safety, technique and fun in the sport that dates back hundreds of years ago. And along with the Archery unit, campers will get the opportunity to geo-cache, build forts, play frisbee games and more. AKASPORT is all about getting these kids to enjoy the great outdoors!

  • Competitive Speech Camp Gr 7-12

    Public speaking is one of the top skills that employers look for, yet it is one of the most dreaded parts of required curriculum. But it doesn't have to be! Students who attend this camp will engage in activities that allow them to bulid confidence while simultaneously harnessing the strengths and interests they already have to hone their skills as a public speaker. Current members of the Spring Lake Park Speech Team and head coach Shannah Anderson will co-lead this four-day program where we will focus on effective speaking techniques as well as strengthening leadership skills. Participants will explore the 13 categories of MSHSL Speech (Creative Expression, Discussion, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Reading, Extemporaneous Speaking, Great Speeches, Humorous Interpretation, Informative Speaking, Original Oratory, Serious Drama Interpretation, Serious Poetry Interpretation, Serious Prose Interpretation and Storytelling). Students will select a piece and focus on effective vocal tone, facial expression, and bodily gestures (blocking) and work towards a mini-showcase on Day 4.

  • Guitar Academy with Youth Enrichment League Gr 4-8

    Join this dynamic course to learn a dynamite instrument! Players will learn the basics of music including reading music, rhythm, melody and meter.     We’ll paint with plaster, tie-dye, make papier mache birds and fling paint like Jackson Pollock. We will even learn some art terms along the way.     Every kid dreams of owning a hamster or a dog or maybe a kitty! In this critter-filled camp, their dream will come true . . . sort of! The kids will create pets galore!   • Project Runway with Youth Enrichment League Gr 4-8

    Join this class where students learn to design, measure, cut, sew, modify, make and take home their very own sewing projects. No experience necessary. All students make their own projects lead by a qualified sewing instructor. Students will learn hand-sewing and machine-sewing techniques during this summer day camp.

    SLPHS and SLP Community Ed are proud to partner in the support of private music lessons. Lessons are $30 per half an hour, offered by trimester in a "pack" of lessons payable in one fee. All lessons will be held in the SLPHS Music Suite. Financial support is available for students who qualify for Educational Benefits. Trimester 3 Flute Lessons: Instructor Heather Samuelson- Heather has a degree from Concordia College, Moorhead. She went to Concordia on a flute performance scholarship, performing with the Concordia Band, Jazz Band and Flute Choir. Her love of playing continues as she performs with the North Suburban Concert Band, Centennial Community Band and plays at church. With 10 years of teaching experience, she’s excited to share her passion and love of music, help students grow in their musical skills and strengthen their playing for band and music auditions.. Trimester 3 Low Brass Lessons: Instructor: Chris Allen is a musician and educator based in White Bear Lake, MN. Primarily playing bass and tenor trombones, but also alto trombone, euphonium, and tuba on occasion. He currently performs regularly with The Paper Clips, Mankato Symphony, Century Jazz Ensemble, and Star of the North Jazz Orchestra. Chris holds an undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College where he studied with Scott Moore and Larry Zimmerman, and studied at the graduate level at the University of Minnesota with Thomas Ashworth. He has taken additional lessons with Andy Chappell (MN Orch), Douglas Wright (MN Orch), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (Canadian Brass), Michael Levine (Dallas Brass), and Henry Charles Smith III. Trimester 3 Trumpet Lessons: Instructor: Leighton Tuenge is a professional freelance trumpet player who performs all types of music around the Twin Cities area, including jazz, classical music and pop music. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in 2022 majoring in music liberal arts and has a certificate in audio recording. Since then, he has played in cover bands such as Inafunk and High and Mighty, been involved in multiple theater shows and performs with his own original jazz trio. Outside of music, he enjoys coffee and outdoors. He teaches all levels of trumpet players and is excited to be working with Spring Lake Park!     Come for the pretty pineapple printmaking, but stay for the sweet citrus scent! In this class, we’ll draw, paint, sculpt and more, but we’ll do it all with a very special twist- these SCENT-SATIONAL works of art all smell as sweet as they look! Come learn the secret ingredients for sweet-smelling artwork as we create cute pointillism cupcakes, a field of tulips, and more.     We are thrilled to offer our students the opportunity to work with some of the finest teaching artists in the Twin Cities! Our program combines acting, singing and movement to establish and hone the building blocks of performing, foster creativity and nurture self-esteem. Through positive and imaginative class experience, our performers will develop confidence in all of these areas, strengthen their skills and have lots of fun! This camp is open to all skill levels - no prior experience in performance required, just a desire to have fun and work with others to create some fantastic memories!
  • Woodworking with Youth Enrichment League Gr 4-8

    Learn to measure, cut, sand, paint, and then take home each project you build. Participants will learn how to use basic tools - hammer, nail, screwdriver, measuring tape, t-square, etc. SAFETY IS OUR FIRST PRIORITY. No power tools will be used. NOTE: Participants should be comfortable using a small saw as well as other hand tools. Wear clothes that can get messy/paint on them.
