Public speaking is one of the top skills that employers look for, yet it is one of the most dreaded parts of required curriculum. But it doesn't have to be! Students who attend this camp will engage in activities that allow them to bulid confidence while simultaneously harnessing the strengths and interests they already have to hone their skills as a public speaker. Current members of the Spring Lake Park Speech Team and head coach Shannah Anderson will co-lead this four-day program where we will focus on effective speaking techniques as well as strengthening leadership skills. Participants will explore the 13 categories of MSHSL Speech (Creative Expression, Discussion, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Reading, Extemporaneous Speaking, Great Speeches, Humorous Interpretation, Informative Speaking, Original Oratory, Serious Drama Interpretation, Serious Poetry Interpretation, Serious Prose Interpretation and Storytelling). Students will select a piece and focus on effective vocal tone, facial expression, and bodily gestures (blocking) and work towards a mini-showcase on Day 4.
