    Destination Imagination: Unleash Creativity and Innovation! What Is Destination Imagination? Destination Imagination (DI) is a global program that inspires kids to explore their creativity, problem- solving, and teamwork skills through fun, hands-on challenges. Participants work together to design imaginative solutions that combine science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). Who Can Join? Community Ed is partnering with two 5th grade parents to put together a club that will meet once a week to introduce the group to DI and do Instant Challenges Instant Challenges are fast-paced activities where students work together to solve a creative task in a limited amount of time. Donate a lesson here Instructor: Chris Allen is a musician and educator based in White Bear Lake, MN. Primarily playing bass and tenor trombones, but also alto trombone, euphonium, and tuba on occasion. He currently performs regularly with The Paper Clips, Mankato Symphony, Century Jazz Ensemble, and Star of the North Jazz Orchestra. Chris holds an undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College where he studied with Scott Moore and Larry Zimmerman, and studied at the graduate level at the University of Minnesota with Thomas Ashworth. He has taken additional lessons with Andy Chappell (MN Orch), Douglas Wright (MN Orch), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (Canadian Brass), Michael Levine (Dallas Brass), and Henry Charles Smith III. Donate a lesson here Percussion Lessons: Instructor: Ryan Borden is a percussionist/drummer and educator based in Minneapolis. As an active scholastic and studio instructor, Ryan focuses on well-rounded musicianship and versatility as a percussionist; multi-faceted development of technique; sonic awareness and sound production; and self-assessment. Ryan formerly held the position of principal percussionist with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra, and other orchestral credits include the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Enid Symphony Orchestra, and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, among others. Also a passionate community educator, he has experience facilitating collective drumming ensembles all over the United States. Ryan currently works at Augsburg University as the coordinator for the Schwartz School of the Arts, as well as a studio artist in the percussion area. He performs as a section percussionist with the Mankato Symphony Orchestra. Ryan received his Bachelor of Music in performance from Illinois State University and his Master of Music in performance from the University of Missouri. Donate a Lesson Here Saxophone/Clarinet Lessons: Instructor: Kristi Tharp Kristi Tharp holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. She was a public-school band director in Sioux Falls before moving to the Twin Cities, where she has been teaching private lessons for 25 years. Kristi enjoys teaching all levels of musicians, customizing the lesson to the student through practical methods and different musical genres. While learning the intricacies of playing an instrument, and interpreting written music, Kristi focuses on the joy of playing and the fulfillment of achieving progress. Many of her students have been members of Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony, Minnesota Youth Symphony, Minnesota All-State Band, and various honor bands.     The After School SPARK Sampler program is designed to engage students in Grades 3-4 in no-cost, high-interest enrichment programming that provides opportunities for students to further develop their talents and spark new interests and passions.   • Spring Lake Park Bowling Team 2025

    BOWL WITH THE SLP PANTHERS Spring Lake Park Bowling Club is for students (boys and girls), in grade 5-12, who like to bowl and have the desire to become a better bowler. No experience is necessary. Interested, but not sure you are ready to commit? Students are welcome to attend up to two team practices free of charge prior to committing. Please send an email to JoshHodney@hotmail.com to let him know that you will be attending a practice. Bowling is a student club at Spring Lake Park High School. Bowling is a co-ed sport in the fall and a girls-only sport in the winter. Members of the bowling teams are eligible for varsity letters. Students can join the team through October 15. Practices are Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 5:30pm at Bowlero Blaine. Beginning in early September, regular season meets will take place on Thursday afternoons in Blaine, Coon Rapids, Ham Lake, or Ramsey. Regular season meets will run through early November. Food will be available at each bowler's expense at both practices and competitions.

  • Westwood - OST Music - Jazz Band/Drumline

    Jazz Band 8 - Tuesdays: Jazz Band 8 plays jazz music styles that range from rock to swing. All band instruments are welcome to play, and students must be enrolled in Westwood’s 8th grade curricular band program to participate. In addition to instruments within the band, those that study guitar, bass, and piano are welcome to join. Jazz Band 7 - Thursdays: Jazz Band 7 plays jazz music styles that range from rock to swing. All instruments are welcome to play, but participants must be in Westwood’s Band program to participate. In addition to instruments within the band, those that study guitar and piano are welcome to join. Drumline 7/8 - Mondays: 7/8 Drumline focuses on snare drum rudiments, and gradually moves to marching snare, bass, and toms. Any student currently enrolled in Westwood’s curricular band program is welcome to participate. No prior percussion experience is required to join. Performances are based on student interest. Jazz Band 6 - TBD - starts January 2025 Jazz Band 6 plays jazz music styles that range from rock to swing. All band instruments are welcome to play, and students must be enrolled in Westwood’s 6th grade curricular band program to participate. In addition to instruments within the band, those that study guitar, bass, and piano are welcome to join. Jazz Band and Drumline will all end in May with the Jazz Cafe at Westwood!

    The First Lego League class is an innovative and hands-on learning experience that introduces students in grades 5 to 8 to the exciting world of robotics, engineering, and critical thinking. Participants work in teams to design, build, and program autonomous robots using LEGO Mindstorms technology. They also tackle real-world problems and develop innovative solutions while practicing essential skills like teamwork, presentation, and time management. Led by Westwood STEM Teacher Mr. Thompson

    Join us after-school in the MS gyms for some fun and games. In this open-gym program, participants will choose 1-2 sports per day, including soccer, basketball, football, etc.
  • Westwood Knowledge Bowl Team 2025 Gr 6-8

    Middle Grades Knowledge Bowl competitions are interdisciplinary academic contests for students in grades 6-8. During each contest, teams of students compete in written and oral rounds by answering questions related to all areas of learning. Questions test students' recall, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Knowledge Bowl competition provides a format for student growth centered on academics. Teams consist of up to six students (6 competing in the written round and 5 competing in each oral round). There is one written round and three oral rounds.
