  • Beyond Pinch Pots with Kidcreate Studio (5-12 years)

    Every kid loves making pinch pots! But let’s go beyond that and learn super cool techniques to transform pinch pots into puppy pals, silly rabbits, playful penguins and much more. Not only will the kids learn the basics of working with clay but they will create amazing clay creations that are way cooler than a plain old ordinary pinch pot! Shhhh, don’t tell anyone, but this class is our best-kept secret! Register early before it fills up!
  • Bowling Club Team Spring 2021

    BOWL WITH THE SLP PANTHERS Spring Lake Park Bowling Club is for students in grade 5 -12 who like to bowl and have the desire to become a better bowler. No experience is necessary. ALL skill levels are welcome. If you are wanting to learn, the SLP bowling coaches WILL make you a better bowler! Bowling is a student club at Spring Lake Park High School. Bowling is a co-ed sport in the fall and a girls-only sport in the winter. Due to pandemic related issues, there will be a special spring season of high school bowling in 2021. Members of the bowling teams are eligible for varsity letters. For the spring season, practice will begin March 1st. Competition will begin in mid to late March. The season will finish up in late May. Practices are held at Bowlero (in Blaine) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30pm. Competitions with teams from Andover, Anoka, Blaine, and Coon Rapids take place on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:45pm. Students can join the bowling club at any time during the season. 7th - 12th graders are eligible for practices and Thursday competitions. 5th and 6th graders are eligible to practice (only) with the team and can choose to practice one or two days per week. Players will have the opportunity to purchase their own customized SLP bowling jersey with their last name on back or they can opt to borrow a jersey from the SLP bowling club manager at no cost. Club members can borrow bowling balls and shoes from Bowlero at no cost. For anyone interested in acquiring their own ball or shows, the SLP bowling club manager will work with bowlers to acquire new or used equipment as inexpensively as possible. Wednesday practices will be specially formatted this spring. Club members will be rostered onto 3-man teams for intrasquad competition. Bowlers will be bowling in USBC (United States Bowling Congress) certified competition and establish a USBC certified average that will allow club members to participate in option USBC youth bowling competitions (separate from high school bowling competitions) through July of 2021.
  • Curling Club 2021

    Welcome to the 2021 season of the Spring Lake Park Schools Curling Club. The club’s goals are to expose students to and develop skills for this lifelong sport. We will work to instill integrity and sportsmanship through a sport that relies on both in order to be successful. Who: Any SLP Student in grades 7-12 may join. No prior experience necessary! What: Curling is an Olympic sport! The sport of curling consists of four team members working together in different ways to accurately place curling rocks or “stones” on a sheet of ice 150 feet long! All team members are constantly involved whether you are “throwing,” “sweeping,” or “skipping.” The play is usually not fast-paced, and there is always an opportunity to socialize and have a great time on or off the ice. Where: Four Seasons Curling Club, 9250 Lincoln St NE, Blaine, MN 55434. We will have bussing for students after school to the curling club. Cost: $130 - 8 weeks of instruction/game play, all equipment needed to curl will be provided to use, bussing to the arena and coaching staff Practice Schedule: Tuesday afternoons from 3-5 starting on Tuesday, February 23 through April 13, 2021 FSCC COVID Policies for this season Masks are mandatory both on and off the ice One sweeper this season. The sweeper sweeps the stone for the duration it is moving. No switching off. Club equipment can be used, but it needs to be sanitized after use. We encourage participants to show up ready to play. If they are being driven to curling, we encourage the driver NOT to come into the facility but simply drop off and pick up. There will be a designated area for drivers and observers to stay but it will be mandatory social distancing and masks. The restaurant is permanently closed Locker rooms will be closed but there will be a designated area for participants to keep personal items. This area will be cleaned and sanitized after each use. There will be no food provided. Participants are asked to bring their own refillable water container. Curlers will throw the same stones for the entirety of their session. All stones need to be sanitized at the end of each session. This is provided by the club.     For students in Grades: 7-8. Beginner/Intermediate Level What’s the difference between pretending to be a character and really getting into character when you’re acting? Developing honest, memorable, and well-rounded characters is one of an actor’s most important tasks. Through activities exploring physicality, writing exercises, and improv, we’ll explore different ways of bringing your next role to life on stage. Outcomes: To advance young actors’ skills in character development. Instructor Bios: Joe Hendren is a Director, Playwright, Performer, Designer, and Producer who has been active in the Twin Cities area for over 20 years. He has directed dozens of shows with performers of all ages for local theatres and schools. As a Playwright, several of his short plays have won playwriting competitions and his full-length plays have been produced locally by theatres such as Lyric Arts, Lakeshore Players, and the Landmark Center History Players. Since 2018 he has been the Artistic Director of Minneapolis Musical Theatre. He is a graduate of Hamline University with a degree in Theatre Arts. Joel will be Instructor for Session A(Tuesdays) Rachel Bentley is an actor, director, and assistant preschool teacher. Rachel is a graduate from UW- River Falls with a degree in Liberals Studies; emphasis in Theatre Arts. She has had the opportunity since college to work with Park Square Theatre, The Guthrie, Lakeshore Players and St. Croix Falls Festival Theatre. Theatre is her passion, both on and off stage and is happy to find any opportunity to introduce newcomers to the wonderful world of live performance. Rachel will be Instructor for Session B and C(Thursdays and Saturdays)

    What rules supreme in your child’s world? Art projects that glitter or glow-in-the-dark? No need for your child to choose when you sign them up for this art class! We will work with a variety of art supplies including clay, glow-in-the-dark paint, and of course, lots and lots of glitter! The kids will create snow globes that glow-in-the-dark, butterflies that shimmer and glimmer, an Eiffel Tower with stars that twinkle, and so much more. Glitter and glow… here we go!
  • Golf with AKA Sports (GR K-5)

    AKA After School Golf in affiliation with the National Youth Golf Center at the National Sports Center. This is a beginner to intermediate level golf class that focuses on teaching kids proper grips and techniques through lessons and plenty of hitting repetition. Small drivers, wedges, and putters will be provided. Golf safety and etiquette instruction included. This is a great way to get your kids enthused about year round golf.

    For students in Grades: 7-8. Intermediate Level The script is the blueprint for a play. As the playwright, you create the story and characters that will be brought to life by other theatre artists. In this workshop we’ll explore how to find ideas, story structure, character development, script formatting, dialogue, research, and much more.     We will be maximizing the mess to make this art class the very best! Get excited to paint with plaster, sculpt with gooey gunk, make papier mache puppies, and fling paint like Jackson Pollock. We will even learn some cool stuff along the way. These projects are so messy your mom would never let you make them at home!
  • ONLINE Drivers Education with Safeway Driving School (GR 9-12) SY 20-21

    Spring Lake Park Schools Community Education offers teen driver’s education in cooperation with Safeway Driving School. Safeway Driving School has been graduating teen drivers in the Twin Cities area for over 40 years and their instructors are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The State of Minnesota requires that driver’s education distance learning be conducted in a face-to-face platform, which requires that students have a video camera and audio capabilities on their devices. Safeway has chosen a secure Zoom platform to conduct the class. Safeway will be emailing the classroom handouts and 2020 MN Driver’s Manual in pdf format for printing. Students will be required to be in front of the camera and interactive for the full three-hour class. Parents/guardians will be required to complete Safeway’s Account Verification. Safeway will be sending out an email before class begins that gives detailed information about how to login to the student’s Safeway account to verify and complete contact information and to review and acknowledge our Service Agreement. Safeway’s only focus is creating safe, responsible teen drivers. Classroom and behind-the-wheel lessons emphasize defensive driving techniques tailored for the inexperienced teen driver while targeting to influence the invincible teen attitude. Full Course Fee of $370 is broken into 3 payments: $220 due at registration time $150 ($75 on first lesson and $75 on second lesson); checks made payable to Safeway Driving School or call Safeway before behind-the-wheel to pay by credit card

    This year's one act play will be "The Jungle Book/El Libro De La Selva," directed by Sra. Pena-Kennedy. There will be a virtual info meeting 3/1, try-outs (virtual) will be 3/2, 3/3, and 3/4. Practice (virtual atleast to start out) will begin 3/8 (no practice during spring break). Performances will be 5/7 and 5/8.
