  • College Application Boot Camp 2024 Gr 12

    College Application bootcamp is for all seniors who plan to attend a tech school, 2-year or 4-year college after high school graduation. This camp is for all seniors but directed to those who have questions about applying to college and would like one-on-one help from counselors and other admissions professionals. Topics that will be covered during camp include: Finding the Right Fit Building your College List Getting Organized Naviance - why and how? Career Exploration Common app vs. College specific app Financial Aid and Scholarships Writing your college essay & personal statement Application fees Plus MUCH MORE! Also included for students: Camp is FREE to all SLP seniors, registration is to save your spot and ensure the appropriate number of staff are present to provide you the help you need.   • Competitive Speech Camp Gr 7-12

    Public speaking is one of the top skills that employers look for, yet it is one of the most dreaded parts of required curriculum. But it doesn't have to be! Students who attend this camp will engage in activities that allow them to bulid confidence while simultaneously harnessing the strengths and interests they already have to hone their skills as a public speaker. Current members of the Spring Lake Park Speech Team and head coach Shannah Anderson will co-lead this four-day program where we will focus on effective speaking techniques as well as strengthening leadership skills. Participants will explore the 13 categories of MSHSL Speech (Creative Expression, Discussion, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Reading, Extemporaneous Speaking, Great Speeches, Humorous Interpretation, Informative Speaking, Original Oratory, Serious Drama Interpretation, Serious Poetry Interpretation, Serious Prose Interpretation and Storytelling). Students will select a piece and focus on effective vocal tone, facial expression, and bodily gestures (blocking) and work towards a mini-showcase on Day 4.
  • Dance Team Summer Camps 2024 Gr 7-12

    SLPDT Summer Camps: JFK Dance Camp Prep - This workshop is intended for any SLP dance team member planning to attend this year's JFK dance camp. This workshop will go through technique, learn a home show routine, and create team cheers that will be used at camp. Dance Intensive Camps - This dance workshop is intended for any dancer (going into 7th grade thru 12th grade). The dancers will focus on dance technique and skills, team workouts, and learn various combinations and short routines.
  • Discovery Days Child Care

    Summer 2024 and School Year 2024-2025 Registration opens for families on March 1, 2024 at 8:30 am. Children must be 3 or 4 by September 1, 2024 to register for Discovery Days. Families who are currently in the Discovery Days program will have priority until March 11 to be confirmed in the program. Current School Year 2023-2024 is open for WAITLIST ONLY for families with children who were 3 or 4 by September 1, 2023 at our Centerview - Blaine and District Services Center - Spring Lake Park at the Early Childhood Centers. Discovery Days offers kindergarten readiness for your child and child care while you work. The program prepares children for kindergarten by incorporating literacy, math, science, social studies, art, social/emotional development, and physical development into its curriculum. Discovery Days is part of our Learning Ventures Child Care program and follows the school-year calendar, except we are open on most days that school is closed. Children receive breakfast, hot lunch and an afternoon snack each day. Where: Conveniently located at our Early Childhood Centers at Centerview Elementary and the District Services Center. Flexible Scheduling: Three to five days per week, Monday through Friday. Full day and Partial day options are available.

  • Drivers Education with Safeway Driving School (GR 9-12) ONLINE

    Spring Lake Park Schools Community Education offers teen driver’s education in cooperation with Safeway Driving School. Safeway Driving School has been graduating teen drivers in the Twin Cities area for over 40 years and their instructors are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The State of Minnesota requires that driver’s education distance learning be conducted in a face-to-face platform, which requires that students have a video camera and audio capabilities on their devices. Safeway has chosen a secure Zoom platform to conduct the class. Safeway will be emailing the classroom handouts and 2020 MN Driver’s Manual in pdf format for printing. Students will be required to be in front of the camera and interactive for the full three-hour class. Parents/guardians will be required to complete Safeway’s Account Verification. Safeway will be sending out an email before class begins that gives detailed information about how to login to the student’s Safeway account to verify and complete contact information and to review and acknowledge our Service Agreement. Safeway’s only focus is creating safe, responsible teen drivers. Classroom and behind-the-wheel lessons emphasize defensive driving techniques tailored for the inexperienced teen driver while targeting to influence the invincible teen attitude. Full Course Fee of $390 is broken into 3 payments: $220 due at registration time $170 ($85 on first lesson and $85 on second lesson); checks made payable to Safeway Driving School or call Safeway before behind-the-wheel to pay by credit card

    Safeway offers teen driver's education in cooperation with Spring Lake Park Schools Community Education. We will offer one ONLINE course as well as three in-person courses which will be at SLPHS. Teen Package: 30 hours of classroom and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training In-person classroom on the following dates and times: June 26 - July 14 (no class July 3 - 7) from 1:00 p.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday July 17 - July 28 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Monday - Friday July 31 - August 11 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Monday - Friday Student must be present for the entire class and attend all 10 classes to get their blue card (allows student to take permit test at a DMV location) Pricing for Teen Package: $390 full price (payment plan available) Payment plan consists of: $220 due when registering for the class through Spring Lake Park Schools Community Education $85 payable at the first behind-the-wheel lesson* $85 payable at the second behind-the-wheel lesson* *Cash or check payable to Safeway Driving School.   • Early Childhood Screening 2023-24

    Early Childhood Screening is a FREE, quick and simple check of your child`s development. It can help identify, at an early stage, possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help even before starting kindergarten. Minnesota law requires that your child be screened before enrollment in public school kindergarten. The service is provided at no cost to families and the results of each portion are discussed with the parent or guardian. Earlier is better! The best age to screen is between 3.5 and 5 years of age. Screening can help detect possible health or learning concerns so that children can get help before kindergarten. Children enrolled in Head Start will be screened there and records are forwarded to their school district. Early Childhood Screening is conducted by qualified professionals to help identify specific needs a child may have in the areas of: - Vision & Hearing - Height & Weight - Cognitive & Social Development - Fine & Gross Motor Skills - Immunizations & Health History Location: Screening location varies, please check each appointment for where it will take place.     This course is best suited for 10 to 13-year-olds interested in learning the current practices of caring for young children and how to manage their babysitting business. Students will learn safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants and how to handle behavior problems. Students receive a reference book, handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit.
  • Emergency Outfitters - F.A.S.T. KIDS - Staying Safe While at Home Alone Ages 7-10

    First Aid and Safety Trained Kids is a 4-hour course for 7 – 10 year-olds. This course helps prepare children for staying safe at and away from home. Lessons cover basic first aid, water safety, vehicle safety, home emergencies, injury prevention, stranger, and internet safety. Students will receive a book, handouts, and a home first aid kit as part of the class.
  • Fantasy Football for Beginners

    If you're new to fantasy football, this class is tailored just for you! Participants will gain insights into drafting players, understanding crucial terms and abbreviations essential for fantasy football success. They'll receive access to tools (websites) that add fun and ease to weekly competitions, along with guidance on how to start a league. By the end of the class, attendees will grasp the fundamentals of all offensive position groups crucial for fantasy football scoring. Moreover, they'll engage in a mock fantasy football draft. Additional topics covered include scoring mechanisms, navigating the waiver wire, managing bye weeks, executing trades, exploring various league formats and drafting options, and most importantly, having fun! Each participant will leave with a comprehensive packet of discussed materials, online resources for fantasy football success, and contact information for the instructor to address any post-class queries. They'll come to realize how simple and enjoyable fantasy football can truly be!

    Mini Camp is the Football Camp for all players planning to be in our High School Football Program in the fall of 2024. Participants will work with SLP Coaches on Fundamentals, Techniques and Schemes. Players must also register for Panther Strength and Speed Camp. The Mini Camp Schedule is subject to change, there is the possibility of a joint practice or two. Details will be communicated ASAP if changes are necessary.

    The Panther Football Youth Camp is a partnership between Spring Lake Park Community Education and Spring Lake Park Youth Football to offer a FREE three-day non-contact camp with instruction in all phases of football. Offensive and defensive instruction will include technique play for interior linemen, linebackers, offensive backs, and defensive backs. A specialty unit with emphasis on the kicking game will also be highlighted. The main emphasis of the camp is to learn football technique, make new friends, and have fun! June 27 - Alumni Night - Learn from former Panthers with college/pro experience plus SLPHS Football Staff July 30-31 - Led by SLPHS Football staff plus HS players
  • Forest Bathing (Shinrin Yoku)

    Experience an ancient wellness practice being rediscovered anew in the 21st century. Join our 2-hour immersive, meditative, and therapeutic forest bathing walk. We will slow down and connect with our senses to the healing, stress-reducing beauty of a little-known hidden corner of the Twin Cities. We will slip away from our phones and revive our relationship with the forest and ourselves via unique invitations that prompt participants to experience the forest in distinct ways. We will share what we notice with each other, incorporating our experiences into our memory to tap again when we may need them. We will re-enter the tame world, renewed and refreshed. For more information on forest bathing please visit www.motzstudios.com. Guests should wear boots/shoes, clothing/gear appropriate for weather. Walk will be held in the rain and snow, but not thunderstorms or negative temperatures. Please wear/bring mosquito/tick repellent and sunscreen if desired. Please bring water if you would like to have some available throughout the walk. DAY OF WALK: Please arrive at walk location 15 minutes prior to walk to allow for check in and walk overview.
