  • Beginning Actor's Toolkit GR 5-6

    For students in Grades: 5-6 Beginner Level Explore the experience of performing on stage rather than observing from the audience. This program examines all avenues of acting, spanning from workshopping auditions to preparing scripted work for performance. Young actors will receive comprehensive tools necessary for success in the field. Outcomes: To introduce or increase familiarity with basic theatre norms and conventions for beginner actors.

    Donate-a-lesson: If you would like to donate to help cover the cost for a student to participate in private music lessons, please select the number of lessons you would like to sponsor below and register like you would for any other class. We appreciate your contribution to helping all of our SLPHS music students experience every opportunity possible.
  • SLPHS Private Music Lessons-Saxophone/Clarinet

    SLPHS and SLP Community Ed are proud to partner in the support of private music lessons. Lessons are $30 per half an hour, offered by month in a "pack" of lessons payable in one fee. All lessons will be held in the SLPHS Music Suite. Financial support is available for students who qualify for Educational Benefits. Donate a Lesson Here Saxophone/Clarinet Lessons: Instructor: Kristi Tharp Kristi Tharp holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. She was a public-school band director in Sioux Falls before moving to the Twin Cities, where she has been teaching private lessons for 25 years. Kristi enjoys teaching all levels of musicians, customizing the lesson to the student through practical methods and different musical genres. While learning the intricacies of playing an instrument, and interpreting written music, Kristi focuses on the joy of playing and the fulfillment of achieving progress. Many of her students have been members of Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony, Minnesota Youth Symphony, Minnesota All-State Band, and various honor bands. Schedule: Please select which open lesson schedule you would like. If there are conflicts due to illness, other band commitments, etc. please work with Kristi Tharp/Ross Wolf on schedule adjustments after registering. Refunds will not be given for missed lessons at this time, so please work with the instructor to reschedule another lesson. Teachers are not obligated to reschedule a lesson that is canceled by the student within a 24-hour window.
  • Studio Art Club: Creative Exploration

    Calling all young artists! Studio Art Club is an open-format art experience where intermediate and middle school students can explore their creativity on their own terms. Each week, students will have access to a wide variety of art materials and techniques to work on projects of their choice - whether that's painting, drawing, sculpting, crafting, or experimenting with mixed media. This is a low-pressure, high-creativity space where students can: Work on personal art projects at their own pace Learn new techniques and try different materials Get guidance and support from Ms. Cuddie Collaborate with fellow artists or work independently Build their artistic confidence and skills Perfect for students who love art and want more time to create! All skill levels welcome - from beginners to experienced artists. What to bring: Just yourself & your creativity! Art Supplies will be provided. Optional: Personal art projects/supplies you would like to work on
  • Westwood - OST Music - Jazz Band/Drumline

    Jazz Band 8 - Tuesdays: Jazz Band 8 plays jazz music styles that range from rock to swing. All band instruments are welcome to play, and students must be enrolled in Westwood’s 8th grade curricular band program to participate. In addition to instruments within the band, those that study guitar, bass, and piano are welcome to join. Jazz Band 7 - Thursdays: Jazz Band 7 plays jazz music styles that range from rock to swing. All instruments are welcome to play, but participants must be in Westwood’s Band program to participate. In addition to instruments within the band, those that study guitar and piano are welcome to join. Drumline 7/8 - Mondays: 7/8 Drumline focuses on snare drum rudiments, and gradually moves to marching snare, bass, and toms. Any student currently enrolled in Westwood’s curricular band program is welcome to participate. No prior percussion experience is required to join. Performances are based on student interest. Jazz Band 6 - TBD - starts January 2025 Jazz Band 6 plays jazz music styles that range from rock to swing. All band instruments are welcome to play, and students must be enrolled in Westwood’s 6th grade curricular band program to participate. In addition to instruments within the band, those that study guitar, bass, and piano are welcome to join. Jazz Band and Drumline will all end in May with the Jazz Cafe at Westwood!
